Corner Man's Unusual Behavior Sparks Confusion Among Boxing Fans
Boxing fans were left scratching their heads after witnessing an unusual moment during a fight. Konrad Czajkowski's corner man took phone calls in between rounds, leaving spectators perplexed.
Phone Calls Interrupt the Bout
Czajkowski was facing English light-welterweight Owen Rees in a match held in Newcastle on Saturday night. However, instead of solely focusing on giving instructions to Czajkowski, the coach decided to take phone calls in between the fourth and fifth rounds of the six-round bout.
No Rules Against Phone Calls Mid-Fight
Surprisingly, there is no rule in the British Boxing Board of Control to prevent trainers from taking calls during fights. This allowed the coach to continue his conversation uninterrupted.
Olympic Gold Medalist Expresses Disbelief
Audley Harrison, an Olympic gold medalist, was commentating on the fight and expressed his shock at the coach's behavior. Harrison stated, "That's crazy - fighters, I don't care who your coach is - do not accept that kind of work environment. A professional coach wouldn't even think to bring their phone in the corner like that, so this coach needs some schooling on being professional on fight night."
Fans React with Confusion and Humor
Fans took to social media to share their confusion and amusement at the coach's phone call antics. One fan jokingly wrote, "Hahahahaa emergency call," while another quipped, "Who said men can't multitask?" A third fan even referenced Czajkowski's personal life, writing, "Konrad, your mum says hi."
Phone Call Doesn't Help Czajkowski
Despite the advice coming from the corner, Czajkowski was ultimately stopped by Rees in the fifth round. This loss brought Czajkowski's professional record to 2-2-1, while Rees improved to 2-0 after winning his debut earlier this year.
Shabaz Masoud Keeps Unbeaten Record
In the night's main event, Shabaz Masoud secured a split-decision victory over Jose Sanmartin, maintaining his unbeaten record. However, Masoud's performance did not impress his promoter, Eddie Hearn, who admitted that he was far from convincing. Hearn remarked, "If we're talking about Shabaz Masoud as a world championship contender, miles off the pace, miles off the pace tonight."
