According to Nigerian reports, he died after the horrendous incident.

Amaeze lost consciousness following two knockdowns yesterday during training in Lagos, the capital city.

He was treated with first aid and rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was unable to pull through and was declared dead that evening.

Amaeze had a perfect record of 2-0-0 in his professional career. Many Nigerians tipped him for greatness in boxing.

Both his fights ended with knockouts in the first round in his hometown, with the second occurring just three weeks earlier on July 1.

Amaeze's death comes only weeks after Simiso Buthelezi, a South African lightweight, also died due to injuries sustained in the ring.

Buthelezi's headbutts against SiphesihleMntungwa during their fight in Durban in June were so brutal that he was able to throw punches out of thin air.

Buthelezi was treated by ringside doctors and then taken to the hospital where he was placed in a coma.

Ali Tazeem (18), a teenage boxing star, was killed in a car accident in Wolverhampton in April.

Lennon Lewis was also present at the tributes to Hero Tito, an Indonesian icon who was unconscious and did not recover.
