The 113-112 card of Victor Loughlin and John-Lewis almost wiped out the sport.

Gillingham has been removed from top-level UK television shows for an undisclosed time.

The BBBofC will now conduct annual reviews of its officials. They have also asked the WBC and WBA to make Catterall mandatory challengers for their fragmented belts.

The British Boxing Board of Control released the following statement: "Following an intern review of the scoring of the Josh Taylor-v Jack Catterall contest, the Stewards of the Board determined that Mr. Ian John Lewis should appear before them to explain the returned card.

"After reviewing Mr. Ian John-Lewis’ explanation, the Stewards of the Board decided that Mr. John-Lewis would be downgraded from A Star Class to A Class Official.

"While the Board was satisfied that Mr. John Lewis' scorecard did no affect the overall contest result, the Stewards of the Board had issues with his margin.

"As the regulator for Sport in Great Britain, the British Boxing Board of Control continues to improve and maintain high quality scoring by our licensed officials.

"The Stewards of the Board decided that each A Star Class Official will be evaluated after every bout as per current procedures and they will also undergo an individual annual review.

"Finally, British Boxing Board of Control has contacted the WBC, IBF, WBA and WBA supporting Jack Catterall in order to make him mandatory challenger for each or every Championship Sanctioning Bodies."

Taylor will likely vacate all 10 titles and move up to welterweight.

It is unlikely that all four sanctioning bodies would agree to give Catterall an instant shot at the belt.

The uncrowned world champion is still the Chorley man, according to almost all those involved in the sport.
