After Kambosos Jr. offers Lomachenko a world title fight, Lomachenko refuses the offer to leave the Ukrainian frontline

HEROIC Boxing Star Vasyl Lomachenko decided to fight on the Ukrainian frontline after turning down a bout for the world title against George Kambosos Jr.

34-year-old world champion at three weight is just one of many Ukrainian sports icons who have fought to defend their country after Russia's invasion.

Lomachenko was to take on the Australian lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. later in the year

The two-time Olympic gold medallist refuses to leave the country. He has chosen to fight on the battlefield rather than in the boxing ring.

Last week, it was reported that Lomachenko's team wanted to get him out of Ukraine in order to prepare for the showdown against Kambosos Jr, an unbeaten Australian ace.

The lightweight contest will be delayed as Kambosos Jr tweeted Lomachenko to "stay safe" while he paid respect to his rival.

He stated: "I respect your choice and I completely understand. I pray for your country and you.

"Please be safe, Devin [Haney] will wipe the floor and we'll make this fight between two true champions. God bless."

Kambosos Jr. is currently aiming for a match-up with Devin Haney from America in an undisputed contest.

Lou DiBella, the promoter of Sydney's native, has stated that he admires Lomachenko.

ESPN quoted him as saying: "How can anyone doubt, the fight he is going through right now ist much bigger than any boxing bout."

"We made a deal, it was done literally before the invasion. We wanted to give him every chance possible within reason and our allowed timeframe.

We have nothing but respect for his decision. Kambosos wanted Lomachenko to have ample time to consider his decision after we had made the deal.

"We had said we would fight the hardest fights, and that is what we did today."
