LEIGHWOOD and Michael Conlan reunited today, just hours after their Fight of the year contender.
The Nottingham featherweight duo put up a show for the ages on Saturday night.
Leigh Wood and Michael Conlan fought for the WBA featherweight title
.
Their dust-up was dramatic and scary.
Wood retained his WBA 126lb belt with a brutal 12th round knockout that sent Conlan, an Irishman, crashing through the ropes.
Conlan, London 2012 Olympian, was transported immediately to the hospital following the brutal knockout. However, Conlan was released after receiving treatment from doctors.
He met the man who gave him his first loss in professional combat sports just a few hours later.
They shook hands, took photos, and then had a short chat to the delight of many boxing fans.
One tweet: "There's respect."
Another one said, "This is class."
Another said, "Top class from both males and what a fight!"
One commented, "Great to see."
A 12-round barnburner was awed by another fan who simply stated: "Best fight ever!"
Conlan, 30 years old, took to Twitter early in the morning to assure his fans he was alright.
"I'll return, good shot, and congratulations to Leigh and his crew."
The Irishman uploaded a video of him to social media. He said that he was all right and was just being checked out at the hospital.
"MY CT scan was clear. Congratulation to Leigh Wood and the entire team.
"You got me to the end with the best shot of the night, but it's what it is. I'll be back."
Conlan was quick and alert to see the barnstormer, and is eager to have an immediate match Leigh-thal.
He tweeted: "Watched fight, I definitely need it back!"
"Up on cards and 11th [round knockdown] was slip, fatigue was setting in and I was caught on temple with a good shot that I didn't see.
"Respect. Congratulations again. You're a hard f *, but let's get it back."
