DAVID HAYE revealed that his fight against Joe Fournier was a result of a night in Mykonos.
The former WBA heavyweight champion will face The Billionaire as part of Vitor Belfort's fight with Oscar De La Hoya next week.
David Haye will be returning to the ring on September 11.
Many were surprised by Haye's clash with Fournier on September 11, as the pair, who are 38 and 40 respectively, are close friends.
The contest was won when their macho bravado showed up during a recent holiday night.
The Hayemaker stated that "This entire fight between us, was born when we were asked to decide who would win in a fight among us at dinner in Mykonos.
"I laughed, but out respect for Joe’s ego suggested that it would be close. Maybe a draw. - while winking at Joe.
"Joe's direct-faced response was very distinct, he was deadly serious and stated he would win in fight today - I assumed that it was just tequila talk.
"And that's where it all began. Two alpha males and a group of girls enjoyed a boozy night in Mykonos.
"Following two weeks, I am happily retired from boxing with no plans to make a traditional return to challenge the monsters in the division, but I am fit and ready for my argument against my confident billionaire friend.
"I would've loved to prove this point behind closed-doors, so I suggested a 4-round spar at my Hayemaker Gym, London. This would have been enough to put him to sleep.
"But for Fournier the 'Ric Flair’ of boxing, this would not have done anything for his legacy'.
Joe asked me how much it would cost to get through the ropes for an official fight on a real stage.
"I told him that it would have to rival my previous PPV blockbusters. After a few phone calls to the lawyers, we are here.
Haye hasn’t fought since May 2018, when he lost his fifth round TKO to Tony Bellew.
Fournier was, however, the last to be seen on Jake Paul's undercard clash with Ben Askren. He stopped reggaeton star Reykon during the second round of their six rounder.
Haye insists that the bout is not an attack on the heavyweight division. He said: "This fight is not a comeback. This is about teaching Joe Fournier that there are levels to boxing."
"One must keep their path straight or they risk being pushed aside. You can't buy certain things in life. Joe 'The Billionaire" Fournier must learn these.
"I was the heavyweight world champion just 10 years ago. I am only 40. Joe is delusional. Champions are not made.
Fournier, despite being a big underdog heading into his fight with Hammersmith's hitman, is confident that he will pull off a major upset.
He stated, "I will shock all the world and knock out David Haye."
"Unquestionably, one of the most difficult challenges in my life, but it is the perfect fight at a perfect time for me.
"Haye, ten years beyond his prime, is racked with injuries. I was late to the pro boxing game, but now I'm in my fighting prime.
"I am healthy, motivated, and ready to prove to Haye that I will win on September 11.
