DILLIAN WHYTE could finally be in line for his first title shot at the world heavyweight title after the three-fight series between Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Deontay.
As he seeks a 13th victory from his 14 previous fights, Whyte (33) will take on Otto Wallin of Sweden on October 30.
Whyte has waited for his shot at the world title for many years
Alexander Povetkin, in 2020, was the Body Snatcher’s only loss since he was defeated by Anthony Joshua six year ago. This defeat was avenged by a fourth round stoppage on May.
Despite a string of impressive wins against Joseph Parker, Lucas Browne and Povetkin, the WBC title that he was chasing was not his due to the rivalry between Fury, Wilder.
Wilder, who was the champion, fought Fury in December 2018. This contest was controversially won by many.
The American took on Dominic Breazeale, Luis Ortiz, and then fought Fury again in February 2020. Fury was stopped in round seven.
The arbitrator ruled that Wilder had the right to fight Fury again, which was a move that seemed to delay Whyte’s title shot. It also pushed Fury and Anthony Joshua to the next round.
A Fury-Joshua bout is now dead in the water after AJ's defeat against Oleksandr Usyk last week. This result could allow Whyte to fight for his WBC belt.
Bob Arum, Fury's promoter, said to iFL TV: "I haven’t spoken to [WBC President] Mauricio (Sulaiman] yet. We will have to wait [to see] [what they rule] on Fury’s mandatory."
"I presume you're referring to Dillian Whyte who is the number-one contender.
"And that could potentially be a big fight for Tyson if it was held in the UK.
