Amir Khan believes he underestimated Kell Brook, and that he could have been 'jet-lagged' during fight amid rematch rumours

AMIR KHAN believed he had underestimated Kell Brook. He could have been 'jet lag' in their grudge match. Promoter Ben Shalom stated that.

This comes after the announcement that the 2004 Olympian has been given three weeks to decide if he will invoke his right for an immediate rematch against Brook.

In six rounds, Kell Brook defeated Amir Khan

Shalom, who owns the Boxxer stable and is partnered by Sky Sports, said there have been rumblings from Khan's camp that his preparations had led to regret.

A rematch clause was included in the original contract so a second fight between these ex-world champions, aged 35 years old, is possible.

Shalom stated to SunSport that Amir Khan has a rematch clause in their contract.

"A lot people don't expect him to activate that, us included. But at the same, I've heard lots around the camp about the jet lag.

"It could also be that he didn't take Kell as seriously, or that a few memers were coming out of their camp.

"They have at most two to three weeks to activate the rematch clause."

Brook, 35, said Khan's biggest mistake had been giving him half a calendar year to get ready for the biggest fight of their careers and stay in peak physical condition.

Khan, now 35, flew to America in November to begin his training camp with Brian McIntyre, his new coach.

He returned home less than a week before the Manchester Arena judgement.

Shalom refused to rule out a rematch, but said Khan made the decision. Khan's pride was harmed by the crushing loss.

According to the 28-year old promoter, "It's in him hands, it's also not mine. If he wants the match, he has the rematch."

He feels like he didn’t give an honest account of himself.

"Perhaps he was jetlagged. He only had a 10-week camp, while Kell was training to last six months.

"But I don’t know. He took a lot punishment, but he never went down. It's not in mine, I don't know. That's the problem here.

"Amir will have to make a decision, and I don’t know what he’s going to do."

Khan suggested that he would retire following his bitter loss, which would end a long and distinguished career.

Khan will enjoy a well-deserved vacation in Dubai with Faryal, but not before his fight future is determined.

Shalom said, "I spoke to Faryal and him more. Obviously, he's gutted.

He's upset and his pride is hurt. It's not a good experience. But, this fight meant a lot to him.

He doesn't feel like the way he should have performed.

"He thinks he underestimated Kell. He'll be fine. He has been to Dubai and is now taking some time off. We are hopeful that he will be able to recover."
