Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr has publicly called out Anthony Joshua for a trilogy fight, expressing his willingness to step into the ring once again. However, Ruiz has expressed concerns that promoter Eddie Hearn may be hesitant to make the fight happen.
Shock Victory and Rematch Defeat
In June 2019, Ruiz stunned the boxing world by knocking down Joshua four times and claiming the unified heavyweight titles in the seventh round. However, in their rematch six months later in Saudi Arabia, Joshua outboxed Ruiz over 12 rounds, leading to a comprehensive victory for the British boxer.
Blaming Promoter Hearn
Despite fans' anticipation for a trilogy fight between the two heavyweight fighters, no official announcement has been made. Ruiz has pointed the finger at promoter Eddie Hearn, suggesting that he may be reluctant to match Joshua with a formidable opponent. Ruiz stated, "I don't think they want to fight. I think Eddie Hearn is already traumatised. He doesn't want to match him against anyone good unless he's trying to get his money and leave."
Redemption and Fight Plans
Ruiz, now 34, has expressed his willingness to fight Joshua on away soil and redeem himself after his rematch loss. He acknowledged that his weight played a significant factor in the defeat, weighing in at 20 STONE for the fight. Ruiz stated, "Of course, I'll go over there. Remember, when I fought him in the ring, I was overweight. I forgot everything that I was doing with the rematch."

Failed Negotiations with Deontay Wilder
Prior to calling out Joshua, Ruiz had been in talks for a blockbuster fight with former WBC champion Deontay Wilder. However, negotiations fell through, with Ruiz being accused of demanding an excessive purse. Ruiz defended himself, stating, "I've been stuck on the shelf, hiding myself. A lot of people don't know the situation I've been in and my problems. That's one of the reasons I wanted to come over here to show my faith, and I'm ready to get back in action."
Ruiz has expressed his desire to fight three or four times next year and is still waiting for a potential fight with Wilder. He also dismissed rumors of demanding $25 million for the fight, challenging Wilder to provide proof of such claims.
