ANTHONY JOSHUA believes that Deontay Wilder's jab-heavy approach to his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury was destined for failure.
The Bronze Bomber shocked boxing fans around the globe by repeatedly jabbing Fury on the body during their epic series decider last week.
Deontay Wilder used a heavy jab approach to his fight with Tyson Fury in the Trilogy
viewers were stunned by Wilder's extensive jab use.
However, fatigue ultimately hampered the American's attempt to KO the Gypsy King with a more measured approach.
Joshua was one of those who were surprised to see Wilder use the jab repeatedly throughout his fight. Wilder believes that modern heavyweights have difficulty using it for 12 rounds.
He said this during a JD Sports roundtable: "Not in today's day and age [can heavyweights jab 12 rounds] because heavyweights have different rules.
"I met the man who makes gloves the other night, and he told me that special gloves were never necessary.
"But now, heavyweights are 17-19 stone and six-foot ten.
"The entire division has been changed over the past five years.
"And before that fighters could jab like this for 12 rounds and get away without any consequences.
They would get tired but were well-conditioned by being lighter.
"But now, when they have big men [who are] 6'7", they get tired."
Joshua, 32, was impressed with Wilder's initial attempts to change his game plan.
He believes that the WBC former heavyweight champion was mentally weak and could not see the end of the job.
AJ stated: "He tried. But to get that power, that ferociousness and that power, you have [points at his head].
"Before it is just here [clenches fists] at this level, it must be here [points to his forehead] also."
Joshua is currently preparing for a rematch against Oleksandr Uzyk, who won his second crown as unified heavyweight champion in September.
The Watford warrior will use the same approach that he used with Wladimir Klitschko in 2017's classic.
He stated, "I'm going to bring that energy back. He said, "But I'm not going to go into my training and everything."
