Article Recap Voiced by Matthew McConaughey
Background
Anthony Joshua has been advised that he may have to wait a considerable amount of time before getting the chance to fight Tyson Fury. This warning comes after Joshua turned down two previous opportunities to face his British heavyweight rival. The two fighters had initially agreed to a bout in Saudi Arabia in August 2021.
Contracted Trilogy Bout
However, Fury was contractually obligated to compete in a trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder, which he won by an 11th-round knockout in October of that year. Meanwhile, Joshua suffered a loss to Oleksandr Usyk and was subsequently defeated again in their rematch, resulting in him losing his titles.
The Road Ahead
Fast forward two years, and Fury is now scheduled to fight Usyk on February 17 in Saudi Arabia in what will be the first-ever four-belt unification in the division. Joshua, on the other hand, is lined up to face Wilder after both fighters return to the ring on Saturday in separate bouts in Riyadh.
Frank Warren's Comments
While promoter Frank Warren is collaborating with Eddie Hearn on the upcoming event, he has ruled out an immediate Battle of Britain between Joshua and Fury. Warren stated that Joshua would have to wait a long time to fight Fury, as Fury's plans for next year do not currently include Joshua. Warren also mentioned that Joshua had previously been given two opportunities to fight Fury, one in December of last year and one this year.
Looking Ahead
Warren believes that if both Fury and Joshua are successful in their upcoming fights, they will be in a position to face each other next year. He described this potential matchup as a massive fight that fans have been eagerly anticipating. However, Warren emphasized that the most important thing is for both fighters to deliver in their respective bouts this Saturday.
It remains to be seen when Joshua and Fury will finally step into the ring together, but for now, fans will have to wait patiently for this highly-anticipated showdown.
