Anthony Joshua names Deontay Wilder the No1 choice in interim fights as he creates a four-man shortlist

They were set to fight in the first part of this year, as AJ tries to regain his world titles.

According to Eddie Hearn, promoter of TAG1, Deontay Wilder is the top choice for Anthony Joshua if the Oleksandr match falls through.
AJ wanted to win the Usyk rematch.

However, this is unlikely to occur after Usyk has returned to Ukraine to fight the Russian invasion.

According to Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn there are FOUR potential rivals on the shortlist.

Wilder is also top of the heap, considering his future in boxing, despite two devastating defeats to Tyson Fury.

Matchroom boss, speaking to iFL TV, said that he had to see the opposition.

"AJ was speaking last night about Luis Ortiz and Otto Wallin - a Southpaw, the same like Usyk might make sense.

"Joe Joyce, even AJ spoke about Deontay wilder.

"I believe AJ would choose Deontay Wilder if you asked him right now.

Let's just be clear: It's not an interim bout. He'll be facing a top ten heavyweight and a heavyweight ranked in the world.

Hearn expressed his hope that Wilder will continue to be in the sport, and also asked DAZN for advice.

He stated that Anthony Joshua had proven time and again that he will fight anyone.

"A great fight if Wilder keeps in the sport, and I believe that at some point that fight will occur."

After losing two fights against Fury and drawing one, Wilder is now taking some time to plan his next move.

The next battle for the Gypsy King will be against Dillian Whyte in Battle of Britain on April 23.
