It looks like boxing fans could be in for a treat as Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder may be heading towards a showdown in a final eliminator to face Tyson Fury. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has expressed his commitment to establishing an undisputed heavyweight champion.

Joshua and Wilder set to compete in separate bouts

Both Joshua, 34, and Wilder, 38, are scheduled to compete in separate bouts on December 23rd. Joshua will face Otto Wallin, while Wilder will take on Joseph Parker. If both fighters emerge victorious, they could be on course to face each other next year.

Battle for the WBC title

Sulaiman has confirmed that Joshua and Wilder would compete for the opportunity to face the winner of the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight for the WBC title. The Fury vs Usyk fight is set to take place on February 17th, with a rematch expected.

Sulaiman told Sky Sports, "In itself, it is a natural WBC elimination tournament. You have Wilder, No 1, Joshua, you have Parker, you have Otto Wallin, all those are highly ranked in the WBC. After December 23, we're going to see a different picture in the rankings. It looks like Wilder and Joshua are on a collision course. That could very well be a final elimination to determine a mandatory contender for the WBC title."

A potential dream come true for boxing fans

While Joshua and Wilder are currently not on good terms, Sulaiman's plans could lead to a highly anticipated showdown for the heavyweight title. Sulaiman described the prospect as "unbelievable" and "a dream come true for the fans."
