Zhang Seeks Rematch at the Bird's Nest
Chinese heavyweight boxer Zhilei Zhang has challenged Anthony Joshua to a fight in China, specifically at the 100,000-seater Bird's Nest stadium. Zhang has gained prominence in the heavyweight division with back-to-back victories over Joe Joyce. He is also eager to avenge his amateur loss to Joshua, which dates back to the 2012 Olympic Games. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, has expressed interest in a rematch that has been over a decade in the making.
Financial Backers on Board for China Showdown
Zhang revealed that he has been in talks with various Chinese companies and investor groups who are enthusiastic about hosting the Zhang versus Joshua fight in China. These potential financial backers are new to boxing and have never organized a world title fight in China before. Zhang believes that within the next two years, a significant world title fight will take place in China, marking a historic event for the country.
Zhang Expresses Interest in Fighting Joshua
Zhang, 40, expressed his desire to fight one of the top heavyweight boxers, including Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, and Anthony Joshua. With Fury and Usyk scheduled for a unification fight, Zhang sees Joshua as a viable option. He mentioned that during his time with Matchroom Boxing, Joshua's promoter, there was no interest in setting up a fight between him and Joshua. However, he is now open to the idea and willing to fight Joshua in London, Saudi Arabia, or even China.
Ready for the Challenge
Zhang emphasized that he is ready for the challenge and willing to face any elite fighter in the ring. He believes in his power to knock out opponents with a single punch, regardless of their reputation or skills. If Joshua's camp is genuinely interested in the fight, Zhang is available at any time and urges them to send over the contract to make the bout happen.
