British boxer Anthony Joshua has reportedly enlisted the help of Ben Davison, the former coach of rival Tyson Fury, to train for his upcoming fight against Otto Wallin. Joshua is set to face Wallin in Saudi Arabia on December 23, the same date Fury was initially scheduled to fight Oleksandr Usyk. This will be Joshua's fifth coach in just over two years, as he looks to bounce back from his recent defeat to Usyk. Although Davison will only be assisting Joshua on a one-time basis, he has already begun working with the heavyweight at his gym in Essex.
Joshua's Coaching Journey
After parting ways with long-term trainer Robert McCracken following his defeat to Usyk, Joshua worked with Robert Garcia and Angel Fernandez, but split from them after another loss to Usyk. He then teamed up with Derrick James for his wins over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius. However, James will not be able to train Joshua for the Wallin fight due to his commitment to another boxer. As a result, Davison has stepped in to assist Joshua for this particular match.
Ben Davison's Background
Ben Davison is no stranger to the boxing world, having previously trained Tyson Fury during his comeback to the ring. He was in Fury's corner for his first bout with Deontay Wilder, which ended in a draw. However, Fury later decided to part ways with Davison and work with SugarHill Steward in order to enhance his knockout power.
It remains to be seen how Joshua's partnership with Davison will impact his performance in the upcoming fight against Wallin. Boxing fans will have their eyes on this match to see if the change in coaching staff will make a difference for the British heavyweight.
