Heavyweight boxing superstar locks himself away for four days

Anthony Joshua, the renowned heavyweight boxing champion, has reportedly spent £2,000 to embark on a unique retreat experience. The boxer booked into a pitch black room for four days starting on October 14, where he will be completely isolated from the outside world.

An Unconventional Procedure

In an interview with Men's Health, Joshua revealed details about this distinctive experience. He explained, "I’m about to do something, on 16 October, I’m going to a place for four days where I will be on my own in total darkness, pitch black for four days. At the time it will be the worst thing ever, but then I think when I come out, I will say I wish I had done more."

No Distractions Allowed

During his stay in the pitch black room, Joshua will have no access to technology or entertainment. He won't have a phone, TV, radio, or audiobooks. The retreat is designed to provide him with solitude and allow him to focus solely on his thoughts.

A Price Tag for Character-Building

Joshua is paying £2,000 for this character-building experience. When asked about his motivation, he stated, "Life is all about experiences. I want to have more character and go through more experiences. In this, though, it’s just me and my mind."

AJ's Concerns and Future Plans

While Joshua is eager to challenge himself mentally, he did express some concerns about the quality of his sleep during the retreat. He jokingly mentioned his dislike for creepy-crawlies and hopes to avoid encounters with spiders or other insects.

Joshua, who recently knocked out Robert Helenius in August, is expected to return to the ring in December or January. Talks for a fight with Deontay Wilder fell through, but his promoter, Eddie Hearn, is hopeful for a match-up in the first third of next year.
