ARTUR BETERBIEV believes he is the beat of Canelo Alvarez, pound-for-pound.
After the announcement of his return to light-heavyweight, Canelo, the undisputed super-middleweight king, is now back in the crosshairs.
Canelo Alvarez is close to a return in the light-heavyweight division
Canelo has been unstoppable in his two previous outings against Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant. But Beterbiev, the 175lb champion insists that he can take on the tough-hitting Mexican.
SunSport spoke with Beterbiev, who said that he was undefeated and is unbeatable.
It is false. "It is not true. He lost to Floyd Mayweather. He had equal fights against GGG [Gennady Gorlovkin].
"With all that being said, Canelo, undoubtedly, is a great fighter. He has the technique, works well on the ring and has a good punch.
"Ofcourse, I will do all that I can to beat him. He is not unbeatable."
"His loss at Mayweather and the equal fights vs. GGG are proof of this.
"I don’t consider myself to be worse than Mayweather and GGG as a fighter.
"So, the outcome of our fight will reveal who is the best of the two of you."
Beterbiev believes a rematch with Guadalajara gladiator, who is set to face WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, would be a big box-office hit.
He stated, "I'm sure that it would be a megafight. It will be one the biggest events in the last few years.
Canelo displayed his ferocity in consecutive stoppage wins over Anvi Yildirim and Saunders.
Beterbiev isn't concerned about the power of the world four-weight champion's punching.
He stated that he believed his technical side was more important than his physical strength.
"His strength in boxing is his thinking. He is a smart fighter.
"As far as his punch power goes, I believe there are other fighters in our division that are more powerful than him and who hit harder.
"I don’t follow up on other fighters closely, but Canelo seems like he is training hard and getting what he wants.
"I don't want anyone to know how I will beat him.
"I would generally follow the same guidelines that I used in previous fights.
"I will do everything I can to prepare for this fight and remain 100% focused on it."
Canelo is close to a multi-million dollar deal with Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn, and DAZN for bouts against Bivol and Golovkin.
Two-fight deal, which would see Canelo renewing his relationship with Matchroom, is valued at a staggering PS63million.
