As British rivals close talks with Eddie Hearn, Amir Khan has finally agreed to fight Kell Brook in the Christmas fight

AMIR KHAN against Kell Brook is a deal that will be a late Christmas cracker.

After a decade of squabbling, the aging welterweights finally agreed to fight, with an eye on a cash-out clash in Saudi Arabia in December.

Khan fought his last fight in 2019, and most recently, he starred in a BBC reality show.

Khan, a 34-year-old Bolton ace, believes his 2004 Olympic gold medal and mainstream USA appeal put him ahead of his Sheffield rival, the former IBF king.

Brook, 35 years old, has finally tempted the former light-welter champion into a spiteful straightener. This should send both of these ring legends into retirement.

This all-English clash, which is similar to the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao bout that frustrated fight fans finally saw in 2015, is five years too late for it to be considered a blockbuster.

Khan, however, met with Eddie Hearn on Tuesday to try and make business deals after Brook split from him last year.

The Matchroom kingpin, who now runs his fights via streaming app DAZN rather than Sky Sports, admitted that both men are working hard for the fight to be sold to the highest bidder.

Hearn stated that he would fight the fight. However, the fight is no longer the same as it was in the past.

It's a bidding war between two men who want to make the most money. I'm willing to fight, but at the right price.

"Both guys see this as their last fight so whoever pays the most money (promoter/broadcaster) will get the fight.

"DAZN has an idea about the fight's value, so Sky might just put it on pay per view and that could be risky."

Khan fought in Saudi Arabia in 2019, and is still a huge name. The veterans will be paid a large site fee.

The two-hour difference in time to Britain would increase viewing numbers, which are often hurt by USA fights on UK TV at dawn.

Brook once was a brilliant fighter, but he has now lost three of six fights and has suffered fractures to both eyes sockets.

He said: “Aside from AJ vs Tyson Fury, it is still the biggest fight in British boxing. And I still think everyone will get very excited about this fight.

“I have always wanted that fight and I think he finally wants it now too.

“I have done everything in my career and this grudge fight will be the icing on the cake. It will happen, it has to.”
