Billy Joe Saunders denies that he quit against Canelo Avarez, and claims that he fought for a minute with a broken eye socket

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS dispelled rumours that he had quit against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez during their May world title clash.

After the Mexican icon, 31-year-old Miguel del Rio inflicted multiple eye injuries on the Brit, the 32-year old's team decided to throw in the towel.

Canelo made a stunning uppercut to finish Saunders' night

Saunders spoke to iFL TV and said: "If it was possible for me to fall on one knee with a fractured eye socket, it would be possible."

"I went over a minute, and still continued... Anyone who knows me personally knows this is not in me, never."

Saunders sustained the horrific injury following Canelo's brutal uppercut in round 8. This ended his unbeaten record.

After being beaten, the champ was criticised for his slam on Daniel Dubois in December after suffering a similar injury.

Canelo and Saunders were competing for the world super-middleweight title. The latter was the favourite prior to the fight.

After Chris Eubank Jr, a rival, claimed that Saunders had quit against Canelo, the Brit made these comments after suffering a serious injury.

Eubank Jr. is interested in a rematch against Saunders, but the former champ isn't keen to box again after several investments.

Saunders said, "I don't really worry if I box again. It doesn't bother me if I don't do it again. I have invested my money wisely.

"I must go to training for six to seven months. I must get out of my comfort zone.

"There are fights that can get you up for that. I would love to see a Canelo match.

"They would need to be the right fights in order to get me back into boxing, because I don't want to be a three-time champion of the world."
