Induced Coma After KO
BOXER Ardi Ndembo is still fighting for his life in an induced coma following a knockout loss in the ring. The father-of-two was competing in Team Combat League when he was stopped in a round by Nestor Santana.
Unique Combat League Format
TCL is a unique set up that has boxers in a squad box over one or two rounds with points earned in each and tallied up to decide the winning team. Ndembo was representing Las Vegas Hustle when he was brutally KO’d by Miami Assassin’s Santana.
Heavyweight Boxer Left Unconscious
The heavyweight from Congo, who was 8-0 at the time, was left unconscious for several minutes after the bout. He was later taken to the hospital in Miami, where he remains now with his wife who was flown into Florida from Las Vegas.
Risks of Boxing
Floyd Mayweather's uncle Jeff, who coaches for the Las Vegas side, paid tribute to Ndembo, emphasizing the risks involved in boxing. He mentioned that while any sport carries risks, boxing is known for its brutality and the potential for serious injuries or even death.
Reminder of Boxing's Brutality
Jeff, a former super-featherweight champion, was present at the fight and noted that the format of Combat League, with just one round, still carries risks, especially in the heavyweight division. Despite efforts to minimize the brutality, incidents like Ndembo's knockout loss serve as a stark reminder of the dangers in the sport.
Tragic Outcome in the Ring
Jeff highlighted that while boxing is a sport loved by many, tragic outcomes like Ndembo's induced coma following a knockout loss shed light on the harsh reality of the sport's inherent risks, even in a single round of competition.
