The Match
British middleweight boxer Linus Udofia endured a gruesome injury during his match against Kieron Conway on Saturday. The fight took place as an undercard event for the WBA featherweight world title bout between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington.
The Eye Injury
During the sixth round of the closely contested match, referee Howard Foster had to intervene and stop the fight due to the extent of Udofia's eye injury. His right eye was completely swollen, impeding his vision and making it impossible to continue. Foster made the decision to prioritize Udofia's safety.
Udofia's Response
Following the match, Udofia reassured his fans via social media that he was alright. He tweeted, "I'm ok, no fractures or breaks. The ref made the right decision, my eye was shut, I felt I boxed to a T.. it's boxing. We'll be back. Thank you Kieran & @matchroomboxing for the opportunity & congratulations. We'll be back, I love you all."
What's Next?
Conway's victory positions him for a potential shot at the British middleweight title, currently held by Felix Cash. This will be Conway's second attempt at the title, having previously challenged for it in 2019.
