Courtney Avoids Going Back to Work

Boxer Maisey Rose Courtney expressed her gratitude to Anthony Joshua for ensuring that her undercard fight goes ahead, enabling her to avoid returning to work. Courtney is set to feature on AJ's card this Saturday at the O2 Arena against Gemma Ruegg. However, the fight and the event itself were at risk of cancellation after Dillian Whyte was withdrawn due to a failed drug test. Thankfully, Robert Helenius stepped in to save the day on short notice.

Courtney Expresses Gratitude

Regarding the situation, Courtney commented, "I thank the lot of them. I thank Eddie for doing it, all of Matchroom, DAZN, Anthony Joshua of course, and even Helenius for taking the fight. I'm just grateful that it's actually happening."

No Time for Wasting

Courtney acknowledges that the fight provides her with more ring time and another purse, but she admits that she would have liked to indulge herself a little before the event. She said, "I would definitely have ate a little bit more. I haven't been eating a lot. I would have treated myself to maybe a packet of crisps or some chips, then straight back to it. I haven't got time to be wasting weeks and months because a fight has been called off. I want to be fighting."

Potential Return to Work

If the fight had been canceled, Courtney would have had to return to her job as a PT and coach at a boxing club. She said, "I would have had to have gone back to work. I would've gone back to PTing people and teaching classes. Without that, I don't have any other way of getting through the month, that's my pay."

Support from Fans

Courtney's supporters are eagerly waiting to see her perform. Despite the fight being saved, her regulars continue to show their support. Courtney said, "I've got loads of regulars that come actually. They support me massively. They see the hard work that I put in. They see me with a black eye, when I've been beaten up in sparring."

Preparation for the Fight

Courtney is ready for her fourth professional bout and is confident in stepping up in class against Ruegg, who defeated her last opponent. She stated, "This is a good step up for me, she's the one person that beat my last opponent. So now I'm ready for that step up, I'm ready to fight someone that's tougher. I like getting drawn into the fight and Gemma does that."
