Shakur Stevenson, the 26-year-old American, has apologized to boxing legends after a humiliating 38-year record was set in his latest victory. Stevenson claimed the vacant WBC lightweight title and became a three-division world champion by unanimously outpointing Edwin De Los Santos in Las Vegas last night.
A Snoozefest in the Ring
Despite the victory, the boxing match at the T-Mobile Arena was met with boos from fans. The slow-paced bout left the crowd wanting more, and even iconic names like Floyd Mayweather, Terence Crawford, and Andre Ward were in attendance, hoping for an explosive encounter.
A Record for All the Wrong Reasons
While Stevenson celebrated his win, De Los Santos managed to make history in a different way. Despite losing the fight, the 24-year-old Dominican Republic fighter landed a total of just 40 punches, the fewest in a 12-round fight since CompuBox began recording them in 1985.
Apologies to Boxing Legends
After the fight, Stevenson took the opportunity to apologize to his idols, including Mayweather, Ward, and Crawford. He acknowledged that he had put on a bad performance and expressed his appreciation for their support.

"I Came to Fight"
De Los Santos, however, had no kind words for his rival. He criticized Stevenson for approaching the match like a "track meet" and claimed that he was the true champion of the people.
A Win, but Room for Improvement
Despite his victory, Stevenson admitted that he wasn't feeling his best and acknowledged that there were areas in his game that needed work. He vowed to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger.
Overall, the fight may not have lived up to the expectations of the fans and the boxing legends in attendance, but it certainly left a mark in the record books for all the wrong reasons.
