CANELO ALVAREZ will face Caleb Plant to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion.
Canelo will defend his WBC, WBA, and WBO belts in Las Vegas while Plant takes up his IBF strap, and unbeaten record.
Caleb Plant and Canelo Alvarez ahead of their fight
As if all the excitement over the possibility of winning the four world titles was not enough, the brawl at the pre-fight press conference only increased the intrigue.
It seems like Canelo is a shining example of excellence, but Plant will be the next to speak up.
SunSport compares the rivals ahead of the mega-unification fight.
SPEED
Canelo is a combination puncher who can be very destructive, and he lets fly with stunning shots in large numbers.
However, his speed isn't always impressive. He focuses more on timing and accuracy.
Plant could have an advantage in terms of the pace of his shots. The American tends to put them together well.
He positions his attacks behind his jab and closes the distance before he throws scoring combinations.
POWER
Canelo is the only winner in this contest.
The Mexican is a man of incredible power. He has scored 38 knockouts during his 56 wins.
His right hooks and left hands do the most damage. It is easy to see why, especially when you look at his training videos with the heavy bag.
Plant enters the fight knowing that Canelo's previous opponent Billy Joe Saunders left him with FOUR facial fractures following a brutal uppercut round eight.
The underdog has 12 KOs in his 21 wins, but he has more stoppages that one-punch finishes.
EXPERIENCE
Canelo is the only fighter who can boast more experience than Canelo. He became a professional fighter at just 15.
He is 31 years old, but he's still learning.
He also shared the ring alongside some of the greatest in his time, such as Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto.
His only negative was his fight against Mayweather in 2013. He was 23 years old in 2013, and it proved to be a pivotal point in his career. He seemed to improve his style afterward.
Plant, 29 years old, has yet to face a world-class standard opponent despite a win against Jose Uzcategui at his coming out party to win the title.
RECORD
Plant's 21-0 undefeated record may seem like a good sign. However, it is clear that Plant doesn't know how to lose.
It is difficult to compare Canelo’s resume with any other.
Alvarez has beaten the best, weighing in at 154 to 168lb.
Plant will be focusing on the fact that Canelo was defeated by Mayweather's slick operator, a style he had displayed throughout his career.
Saunders, however, was not the only one to have a reputation for sweet science. He returned home with a swollen eye.
PHYSIQUE
Plant has a higher height and reach advantage than Canelo at 5ft 9in and a nearly four-inch reach advantage.
Alvarez has fought up to 175lb and in November 2019, he defeated Sergey Kovalev to take the WBO title.
He has also given up height and reach before, and he had no problem marching down Callum Smith at 6ft 3in in December 2020 to win 12 rounds.
Plant will have to make sure Canelo is not at the end of his jab.
Alvarez can also be a master of educated pressure. He blocks and slips shots while he walks forward, leaning in to counter the bait.
