Canelo has won several world titles, including light-middleweight and light-heavyweight. He is now keen to jump TWO divisions in order to meet Ilunga Makabu, WBC cruiserweight king.
The WBC approved the blockbuster bout after the Mexican ace asked to face the Congolese star in November.
Don King, Makabu's legend promoter, has welcomed the dust-up and compared it with when Muhammad Ali faced George Foreman in 1974.
SunSport was informed by King that Canelo was the one who challenged Makabu.
"Canelo will fight Makabu, Makabu says that he wants to fight and accepts to fight."
"Makabu suggested it could be Rumble In The Jungle 2; we can go back home to Zaire with major, major attractions.
"He said, I'm from Zaire. Zaire is where the famous Rumble in The Jungle between Muhammad Ali & George Foreman took place.
Makabu stated, "I'm going do to Canelo what Muhammad Ali did George Foreman, and that's knocking you out."
"I don't know if that's going be enough to scare Alvarez, but we are ready, willing, and able fight Canelo Alvarez, one of the most formidable fighters today."
