The Mexican won the trilogy series with GGG by a convincing victory, beating the Kazakh unanimously in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez announced plans to have hand surgery after defeating Gennady Gorlovkin
It was a result of a drawn match in 2017 and a narrow majority victory in the rematch one year later.
Canelo, 32 years old, entered his trilogy bout with Golovkin (40), having been defeated by Dmitry Bivol, in May.
The boxing star has now finished his business with GGG and is looking to complete a revenge mission against Bivol.
Canelo must first address a hand problem, so he has to go under the knife.
He stated, "I will need to have surgery on my left hand." My left hand. But I'm strong, I'm a fighter and that's why I'm here.
"It bothered [me] a lot. It is impossible to hold a glass. It's really terrible. But I'm a warrior."
Canelo, 31, must wait for Bivol to defend his WBA light heavyweight title against Gilberto Ramirez (also 31, on November 5).
He did confirm that a rematch against the Russian was his top priority.
Canelo said: "Of course, everybody knows. We'll watch, we'll be able to see what happens in this fight.
After winning the undisputed super middleweight title in November 2021, the four-division champion gained weight.
He appears to be ready to jump from 168 to 175 lbs to avenge Bivol's defeat.
Canelo stated: "It is very important for me, my pride, my country, my family, and for everything.
"It is very important, and I will beat him."
