Canelo Alvarez would DRAWN GennadyGolovkin Trilogy if he lost one more round.

CANELO ALVAREZ could have won his trilogy fight with Gennady Gorlovkin with an unthinkable draw if he had lost one more round.

In 2017, the Mexican was accused of running away with an undeserved draw in Las Vegas, his adopted home.

A year later, Canelo won the rematch with a majority decision. Some felt that GGG deserved the nod.

Despite this, it was clear that the Mexican ruled the proceedings in the long overdue trilogy four years later.

However, the scorecards didn't reflect this. Dave Moretti rated it at 116-112, Steve Weisfeld at 115-112 and David Sutherland at 115-113.

This means that if Canelo had lost one more round, it would have been scored at 114-114, which would have resulted in a terrible draw.

GGG had a grudge for nearly half a century after being unable to win their first two thrillers.

Although the trilogy fight, four years after Canelo won the rematch, did not live up to its billing it did resolve the matter once and for all.

He replied, "Thank you so very much my friend. We are grateful for all that you did.

"We gave three great fights to the fans and we thank you for everything. OK."

Canelo, 32 and Golovkin, 40 agreed to be embraced by Canelo in the middle.

GGG stated: "I want canelo to shake hands with me, congrats.

"The guy is a true warrior, and if you don’t understand him, you don’t understand anything."
