CANELO ALVAREZ has decided against moving up to heavyweight, despite his cruiserweight debut.
The Mexican will fight Ilunga Makabu, WBC 200lb King, to be crowned the five-weight world champion.
Canelo Alvarez hopes to be a world champion at five-weight next year
Boxing fans are speculating that the undisputed champion at super-middleweight has made a shocking weight gain, leading to speculations that he may move up to heavyweight.
However, the pound-for pound king is not going to mix it with boxing's big guys.
He stated, "I am very happy that I can keep making history, and to continue looking for challenges. It is dangerous, but it is something I love.
"A year ago, I said no cruiserweight. Here we are, so I don’t think so (to reach heavier weight). But with Eddy, I don’t always know.
"I don’t believe so. It isn't possible, my body doesn't have the capacity."
Canelo, 31, relishes the chance to cement his status as one of Mexico's greatest fighters, but it's unlikely he will reach the 200lb limit.
He stated, "For many people there is limit, but not me.
"I would like to thank Makabu for giving me the chance to fight for this title, and for continuing making history. It was a great opportunity to add another star to my career.
"But I can't (reach $200), maybe 180, that would work fine."
Canelo made history by becoming the undisputed champion at 168lb earlier this month with an 11th-round victory over Caleb Plant.
He declared his historic win: "2021 was an exceptional victory, to unify the division, something that no other person had ever achieved."
"To be one of the six boxing champions in history, to be the first Latino.
"It has been the best year for me.
"I'm proud and happy to represent all Mexicans, and now it's mine turn to do what's best for me.
"It's true that I faced all world champions at 168, and I won the title from them all. Now I can do what I want."
