Canelo's 3-fight strategy with P4P star set to Gennady Gorlovkin trilogy and cruiserweight titles after Dmitry Bivol bout

CANELO ALVAREZ will be fighting in three fights in 2022, which include two title challenges as well as a bitter trilogy bout.

After four fights in just eleven months, the Mexican super-middleweight champion was undisputed.

Canelo, 31, signed to take on Dmitry Bivol (also 31,) at the WBA light-heavyweight title.

In 2019, he won the WBO version against Sergey Kovalev (38), but soon lost the belt to return down.

Canelo now has the chance to be a light-heavyweight champ twice, having signed a deal with DAZN for a pair of fights.

The second part of this contract contains a September return with Gennady Gorlovkin, an old rival and the target opponent.

Canelo was lucky to win their first fight in 2017 by a draw, but won the rematch by a razor-thin decision one year later.

Although a trio bout did not materialize, Eddie Hearn promoted the fight and has set up the two for a showdown later in the year.

Golovkin, 39 years old, must first defeat Ryota Murata, 36, in their unification of middleweight on April 9, in Japan.

Hearn said to iFL TV, "If these two win. They will be meeting each other in September.

Canelo predicted that he would KO Golovkin, ending their rivalry in style.

He stated, "That's how I feel." First, I must win this fight. We can then talk about this fight if I win.

"But that's how I feel about that fight."

Canelo defeated Caleb Plant (29 years old) in November to regain supremacy at 168lb. He requested to fight for WBC's cruiserweight title.

Illunga Makabu (34), accepted his challenge and would add TWO STONE to his weight.

Although the move to the higher division was ultimately unsuccessful, Canelo's manager and trainer Eddy Reynoso is looking forward to the historic fight in December.

He stated, "It could have been Makabu because that's the WBC champion."

"Whatever happens in the first two fights will be decided in December. We have a well-trained fighter and a powerful fighter.

"Those are only champions who can move up and down divisions."
