Eubank Jr., 32, said that he deliberately refused to fight for the KO and instead chose to drag the beating out over the distance.

Sky Sports quoted him as saying: "I wanted this man to learn a lesson. He had made me a lot of threats leading up to the fight, so I was determined to get him in jail.

"I thought, "I don't want to knock out this man in the first round." I want people like him to quit boxing.

"You watched the fight, headlocks and headbutts, crazy stuff. He didn't get disqualified. He was punished as I promised."

Eubank Jr., who admitted he BIT Williams said that stopping the Welshman, 29-year-old, would have allowed him to 'an easy escape'.

He said, "If I had stepped on the gas at any stage of the fight, he'd have been gone." He needed to learn a lesson.

"I didn’t want to give him an easy escape. There are many levels to this game. You don't have to be rude to men that can cause you harm.

"He believed he was something he wasn’t."

Johny Nelson, the ringside pundit, was not convinced by Eubank Jr.'s comments.

Nelson, 55, replied: "I don’t believe that." He doesn't believe me. He would have got the knockout if he had.

"His shot didn't land. He didn't get the knockout shot. He is not a person I can believe in a million.

He made a fundamental error - he should not have been professional."
