Chris Eubank Jr's trainer, Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre, has managed to escape jail time after admitting to carrying a loaded gun and ammunition in his suitcase through Manchester Airport. McIntyre, 53, was arrested in September when airport staff discovered the weapon in his hold luggage. However, instead of being sent to prison, he was given a 20-month suspended sentence by Manchester Crown Court.

Trainer Supported by Boxer Terence Crawford

During his hearing at Manchester Crown Court, McIntyre received support from boxer Terence Crawford, who provided evidence on his behalf. McIntyre, who hails from the US, was apprehended as he checked in for a flight to Atlanta on September 3. Border Force officers intercepted his bag after a scan revealed a firearm, a magazine, and ammunition.

Armed Police Respond to Airport Incident

Once the discovery was made, armed police quickly descended upon Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport to arrest McIntyre. The trainer had recently been in the corner for Eubank Jnr's middleweight victory over Liam Smith in their Manchester rematch last month. McIntyre has also worked as a trainer for British boxer Amir Khan and is primarily known for his work with Terence Crawford.

Greater Manchester Police released a statement confirming the incident: "At around 10.45am on Sunday, 3 September 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport. After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized. Subsequently, a 53-year-old man was arrested for possession of a firearm and was taken into custody for further questioning. Brian McIntyre (01/07/1970) from the United States of America was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate."
