Benn, the younger, couldn't believe that his older man had scored as high as his.

It seemed at first that the senior Benn would win.

Nigel, 57 years old, stepped up to smash it in smart shirt-and trousers combo.

His strike scored a substantial 848. The host Ben Shephard described it as a "nice start".

Conor, 25, wasn't having it and addressed the bag with some warm-up swings.

The youngster, dressed in a tracksuit with trainers, could only score a paltry 769 points, almost 80 points less than his father's score.

Conor, who was celebrating with Nigel, complained that he hadn’t hit the bag correctly and demanded another try.

Strike 2 was a better hit, as the son sent the score soaring to 860, to give the gauntlet his father.

Shephard joked that "we might be here forever" as tension rose in the studio.

However, despite his 32-year age gap Nigel was more than a match to his boy.

The two-weight world champion in the past connected with another right-hand, bringing his total to 860.

They were pleased to declare it a draw and share the spoils with Benn's household.
