Conor Benn stops Chris van Heerden in the second round with a brilliant KO to set up summer blockbuster

CONOR BENN has completed his boxing education by scoring a sensational knockout of South African southpaw Chris van Heerden. He now faces a huge summer test.

Four months after destroying Chris Algieri using a brutal one-two combination, he used a similar textbook attack to destroy his 34-year old opponent.

Conor Benn defeated his opponent in Manchester within two rounds

He drove a rocket of his right hand into the first leftie that he had ever faced in front of a Manchester Arena crowd. After a range-finding jab, he bullied him down the deck for a count he couldn't beat.

Benn crouched low and launched into attacks against his hulking legs. The first attack was a success, but the second was not as successful. He was then tagged with a righthook when it became too predictable.

Van Heerden, a Leftie veteran, was expected to be frustrated and awkward but instead he seemed content to stand and trade power shot which he didn't have much chance of winning all night.

Benn was greeted by the Manchester crowd who chanted "Conor, Conor", indicating that he had stepped out of the shadow of his father.

Before the second round could get going, van Heerden was snatched by another one-two. He was soon on his feet and before some wild haymakers took him to the canvas for counting.

Tony Sims has five wins over respected veterans on his record. He is too big to settle for less than a domestic PPV or world title shot.

Amir Khan, a former champion of the world and Bolton, is available to Benn for one last pension installment if the four major world titles are resigned.

One thing is certain, the once vulnerable gimmick has become a 21-0 contender thanks to the hard work and dedication of his Essex mentor. His impressive record and profile now require an opponent to match.

Khan may be too costly, and Kell Brook has a fight with Chris Eubank Jr. as a catchweight, then European champion David Avanesyan should be considered.

A-star Benn doesn't need to spend any more time studying or revising before he sets out to win his weight class.

Benn stated that "People thought a Southpaw might be a problem, but I will beat any person in front of me."

"I keep silence critics, but I will beat southpaws boxers and punchers.

Amir Khan jumped into the ring but refused to fight Conor Benn

Brook and Khan will be my choice, but they won't like it. So I will continue to push for world titles.

"I respect Amir. He was the greatest of his time, and I respect him. The fight would be an idol to rivals.

Khan jumped into the ring, and when Benn refused to allow him to fight, fans booed. He said that he was just there to enjoy boxing, that he was a fan, and not to compete in Benn matches. I'm here to support him.

"At the moment, I want to spend time with my family but who knows.

"If I return, then we can see where to go from there.

"He is a young, hungry lion."
