Fight Date Revealed

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of boxer Conor Benn, is set to initiate discussions this week for a highly anticipated grudge match between Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.

Benn's Failed Drug Test Put Initial Match on Hold

Last October, Benn and Eubank Jr were scheduled for a catchweight clash at 157 lbs, nearly 30 years after their fathers' famous rematch. However, the fight was cancelled due to Benn failing two drug tests, which thrust him into a battle to clear his name.

Eubank Jr's Recent Fight Success

Following the scandal, Eubank Jr, 33, faced off against Liam Smith, 35, in January. Eubank Jr suffered his first career loss in that match, but he later avenged the defeat with a tenth-round stoppage in their rematch, with Benn in attendance.

Promoter Hopes to Restart Negotiations for December Match

Now, promoter Eddie Hearn aims to reconnect with Benn and Eubank Jr to discuss the possibility of resuming negotiations for the British blockbuster fight to take place in December.

Benn's Potential Tune-Up Fight and Boxing Board Approval

Prior to the big match, Benn could potentially return to the ring this month in a tune-up bout. Talks with the British Boxing Board of Control are underway to re-license him. The Board has not rejected the idea of Benn fighting in Orlando and has no objection to the fight, as he is not currently under suspension.

Benn's Suspension Lifted, Allowing Him to Fight Again

In July, following a video-call hearing with the National Anti-Doping Panel, the provisional suspension on Benn was lifted, clearing the way for his return. He has not fought since April 2022 and could feature on Hearn's next bill in America or jump directly into a match-up with Eubank Jr.

Preparing for the Magnitude of a Career-Defining Fight

According to Hearn, if Benn decides to fight prior to the Eubank Jr showdown, it will likely be a shorter eight or ten round bout to shake off the ring rust. The decision on Benn's next move will be made this week.
