A Major TV Channel Change for Boxing?
Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, has responded to reports of Showtime Boxing's potential demise, expressing his lack of concern and even making disparaging comments about the network. White specifically called out Showtime boss Stephan Espinoza, with whom he had previously worked closely. The strained relationship between the two has been evident since their successful collaboration on the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather fight, which generated massive pay-per-view sales and profits.
White's Candid Remarks
Speaking at a recent post-fight press conference, White initially expressed disappointment at the idea of Showtime Boxing leaving the industry. He praised the show's production and described the person in charge, Espinoza, as a "great human being." However, he quickly switched gears and mocked the situation, cursing Espinoza and his TV network. White bluntly stated, "F*** Espinoza. It's about time that s***** product was off the air."
A Potential End for Showtime Boxing?
Earlier this year, Showtime underwent a significant change when it ceased to exist as a standalone premium cable channel and became part of Paramount+. This takeover may lead to the end of Showtime Boxing, which has been broadcasting since 1986. Paramount+ could potentially discontinue the streaming service, resulting in a major TV channel change for boxing fans. Throughout its history, Showtime Boxing has televised numerous iconic fights featuring legendary boxers such as Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Tyson Fury.
