DEONTAY WILDER may fight Tyson Fury, WBC heavyweight champion, if he wins his rematch against Robert Helenius.
The 36-year-old American knockout artist will be back in the ring on October 15 to face the Finnish boxer in Brooklyn.
Wilder was stopped in 2020 by Fury before the Brit KOed him last year in brutal fashion
Wilder will be upset by Helenius in October
This will be Fury's first fight since KOing him in the 11th Round of their Trilogy 12 months ago.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that Fury's belt has been granted eliminator status.
Although this does not guarantee the winner of the shot, it will place them in line for a final eliminator.
This could be against Andy Ruiz Jr. vs Luis Ortiz, a winner of an additional eliminator - that bout is scheduled for September 3.
Sky Sports News' Sulaiman said: "We have accepted elimination bouts that were requested by the WBC.
"One is Wilder Helenius, and the other Ruiz-Ortiz.
"Those are eliminations. Fury is the champion. He's got the time. We'll see what happens.
Fury defeated Dillian Whyte, his last mandatory opponent back in April at Wembley Stadium.
He then announced his retirement but it appears he is already changing his mind.
Oleksandr Usyk has informed his team that they have until September 1, to reach an agreement regarding a undisputed clash after Saturday's win over Anthony Joshua.
Wilder is currently preparing to fight Helenius, a heavyweight schooled fighter who has a professional record that includes 31 wins and three losses.
He was defeated by Whyte, Johann Duhaupas and Gerald Washington in the past.
Back-to-back victories over Adam Kownacki put him back in contention to win a world title.
In December 2018, Wilder controversially drew with Fury, in a clash that many believed the Brit won.
Wilder was then twice dropped by Fury in their rematch fourteen months later, as he won the WBC title.
The Morecambe fighter then defended his belt by scoring a thrilling 11th-round KO of Wilder.
