According to ESPN, Haney and Garcia have finalized the terms for their upcoming fight, which is scheduled to take place on April 20 in Las Vegas.
Haney's Impressive Record
Devin Haney, a former undisputed lightweight champion at 135 pounds, recently made the move to super-lightweight. In December, he secured his first gold at 140 pounds by defeating Regis Prograis in a dominant 12-round performance.
Garcia's Rise in Popularity
Ryan Garcia, who boasts over 10 million Instagram followers, fought twice last year. In April, he suffered a seventh-round defeat against long-time rival Gervonta Davis in a highly-anticipated match that reportedly sold 1.2 million pay-per-views. Garcia bounced back with a victory over Oscar Duarte in his comeback bout.
Mayweather's Influence
After his win over Duarte, Garcia initially called out former sparring partner and WBA champion Rolando Romero. However, talks stalled, and Garcia turned his attention to Haney. There was confusion when Garcia joined forces with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, who convinced him to target Romero again. However, Romero ultimately signed to face Isaac Cruz, and negotiations with Haney resumed.
An official announcement for the Haney vs. Garcia fight is expected soon. Haney will be defending his title against Garcia in what is sure to be a highly-anticipated showdown.
