The pay-per-view purchases for Canelo's failed return to light-heayweight have now been revealed.

Canelo, a former pound-for-pound champion, was defeated unanimously by Dmitry Bivol, WBA light-heavyweight champion earlier in the month.

However, the Mexican's attempts to become a 2x175lb champion was not as successful as his previous fights.

Dan Rafael, a boxing reporter, said that the fight attracted 520,000 buyers in the United States. The fight was being broadcast by DAZN.

Canelo and Bivol were purchased by over half a million fans, but that figure pales in comparison to the number of pay-per-view purchases for Caleb Plant's future hall-of famer's fight last November.

An incredible 800,000 people contributed their hard-earned money to Canelo's unification of the super-middleweight category.

Given that Bivol, a slick fighter, is relatively unknown to casual boxing fans, it's not surprising that there is such a disparity in pay per-view purchases.

Just days after Eddie Hearn slammed Leonard Ellerbe, a rival promoter, for claiming that Canelo's failed bid to become a two time 175lb champ came just days after the reported numbers.

Pro Boxing Fans was told by him: "If my brain doesn't understand what I'm doing then why am I 100x bigger than Leonard Ellerbe?"

"Why aren't we the largest global promotional company anywhere in the world?"

"And Leonard Ellerbe doesn't even have any relevance in the boxing world.

Leonard Ellerbe is one of the most prominent promoters in the entire world. Let's face it, not in a million years.
