Ebonie Jones has recently switched her HGV license for a boxing licence... and now she hopes to make money by focusing her fuel on fighting

EBONIE JONES swapped her HGV license for a boxing licence at the wrong time. She can now concentrate all her energy on fighting.

Portsmouth featherweight, 23, learned how to drive large motors in the Army and could make a lot of money delivering petrol to garages on weekends.

The Portsmouth featherweight is not focused on preparing for the ring.

She only wants to see fists cheering her pro debut at Wembley Arena on Saturday, however.

SunSport spoke with her: "I was in Royal Engineers, and for my trade I obtained my Cat C+E license and was about to start my tank courses when I decided to quit and go pro."

"I have not received any calls from Esso or BP to assist with their deliveries."

"I've heard that it is a good deal at the moment. However, I doubt John would allow me to take time off from training.

"I have not had any income since July when I left the army. I signed off and didn't realize I would be offered a job as a pro. I was thinking I might need to find a part-time job to supplement my training.

"But now, the risk has paid off. Everything feels perfect timing."

Jones was an outstanding amateur, but she quit the sport two years ago after becoming disillusioned trying to make it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Self-confessed slugger, he didn't even like watching the sport on TV.

Because of the rapid rise in success of women's punching, she can now bow on Sky Sports rather than garage forecourts.

She said: "Professional Boxing was never a serious career choice for women before.

"Going to the Olympics was the only way to make a career out of yourself and your career. This is not something that everyone can do.

"But, now there are female world champions that are well-known and well-paid. It's big."
