Eddie Hearn claims that Canelo Alvarez may be able to move up to Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua's HEAVYWEIGHT division.

Eddie Hearn, a boxing promoter, has suggested that Canelo Alvarez, POUND-FORPOUND's superstar could be promoted to HEAVYWEIGHT at some point in the future.

The Mexican 31-year old recently defeated Caleb Plant, the IBF super-middleweight champion, to be the undisputed king at just 168lbs.

in different weight classes.
Fury is widely recognized as the best heavyweight fighter in the world.

Canelo also won titles at lightweight, middleweight, and light-heavyweight.

The possibility that he would jump up to cruiserweight was shocking news for the sport. On Thursday, the WBC ordered Alvarez to fight champion Ilunga Makabu.

The 34-year old Congolese boxer has lost only twice in 30 fights. His most notable loss came in 2016 when he was knocked down by Tony Bellew.

If this clash were to occur, Canelo would be able to jump from 168 to 200 lbs.

Hearn, however, has supported the Mexican fights in the past and believes he can even go further by becoming HEAVYWEIGHT.

He spoke to iFL TV and said that he believed Canelo as well as Eddie Reynoso want challenges. They are willing to do great things, which is a tremendous thing for the sport.

Joshua was defeated by Usyk in September to win three of the four heavyweight belts

"The Makabu fight would be a great cruiserweight fight. It would also give him another world champion victory. This would get people talking like it did last night. I believe it's a good option.

"I believe it's a dangerous fight. Tony Bellew, who could look really good in a few short months if this happens, told me Makabu is a big puncher, huge puncher and very strong.

"I believe that when you consider Saul, the Golovkin fight would be a big fight financially, so a lot people would like to see that fight. Is that enough to motivate him?

"I believe he could be undisputed at 175 and that is what I like. There is also the cruiserweight category.

He could fight at heavyweight. It's true, Usyk is not a huge heavyweight. Trevor Bryant is a world champion. He can he compete with those guys?

"Cruiserweight first, maybe. Makabu is a great fight. It's a very dangerous fight. I also think it's exciting. As I mentioned, Saul and Eddie are keen to make history.

They don't want boring, monotonous fights. Every fight must have a meaning."

There are many options

Although Hearn didn't specifically mention Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua as possible opponents for Canelo in his interview, they are both big names in the heavyweight division.

Fury holds the WBC belt. Joshua will rematch Oleksandr Usyk next season as he attempts to reclaim WBA, IBF and WBO straps.

American Bryant also appears in the photo as the WBA regular title holder.

Canelo is still the main draw of boxing. Many fighters wait to meet him because he is the most lucrative financial attractor the sport has.

Canelo could fight Gennady Gorlovkin in a three-fight series, with Makabu moving up to heavyweight and Makabu at cruiserweight.

Alvarez and the Kazakh fighter drew in September 2017, before Canelo won a majority decision twelve months later.

It is possible that Canelo (whose only loss was to Floyd Mayweather in 2008) could be facing the feared light-heavyweight Artur Betterbiev.
