Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua's trip was not about a new trainer. He also opens the door to Rob McCracken's shock stay

ANTHONY JOSHUA was not on a mission to find a new trainer during his recent visit to the United States.

After being spotted at many gyms during his stay in the States following Oleksandr Usyk's defeat, AJ sparked intense speculation that he might be leaving Rob McCracken, his long-time coach.

Eddie Hearn, the promoter insists that the trip was not about Rob McCracken's replacement.

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of the former champion in unification heavyweight, insists that Eddie Hearn's trip to America was all about "learning" from a new environment.

DAZN was told by the Matchroom Boxing chief: "The trip wasn’t about identifying new trainers, it was about learning new environments.

"I believe he must change his environment."

Hearn believes that the Watford warrior would greatly benefit from a change in scenery.

He said, "I think that's a great move for him."

"He has been living in Sheffield since he was 18, that's 14 year's, and it's an incredible camp.

He's God in the UK, but he's God over there. He liked that he could have breakfast and go to the gym. And he wasn’t being mobbed every day.

Hearn believes Joshua will struggle to make the decision to fire McCracken, his mentor and friend.

BetFred was told by McCracken that Robert McCracken was more than a trainer for AJ. He is a friend. He is a mentor. He is an advisor."

Joshua will try to reclaim the unified Heavyweight titles from undefeated Usyk's spring.

Although a date has yet to be set, Hearn already noticed a shift in Hearn's mentality.

He stated, "I say that we must go rough and tough but he has to have the challenger mentality in fighting and he has it."

"Everything that I hear from him tells us that he wants Usyk to lose badly, and he's determined to do so. I didn’t hear anything about it going into the first fight.

"He is angry, which is good.

"No decision has yet been made, but I think a change in scenery would be good to him in terms of his training camp's location."
