Hearn's Scathing Remarks on Ngannou
Eddie Hearn, boxing promoter and Anthony Joshua's representative, had previously dismissed Francis Ngannou's chances of success in the ring, claiming he couldn't even win a regional belt. Hearn went as far as to say that Ngannou would be no match for Southern Area champion Johnny Fisher, calling their potential fight a "total mismatch."
A Stunning Reversal
However, Hearn is now preparing to announce the date and details of Joshua's upcoming bout with Ngannou in Riyadh. This sudden change of heart comes after Ngannou's impressive performance against Tyson Fury, where he shook up the undefeated WBC world champion. Hearn seems to have come to the conclusion that Ngannou is now worthy of facing Joshua, whom he previously touted as the best heavyweight in the world.
The Saudi Factor
The fight between Ngannou and Joshua is set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as the country aims to generate global TV coverage and promote its sportswashing initiative. While the Saudis may not be avid fans of boxing, they are willing to invest millions in this highly anticipated matchup.
Promising Talent in British Boxing
Looking beyond the Joshua-Ngannou showdown, British boxing has reason to be optimistic about the future. Rising stars Adam Azim and Hamzah Sheeraz, both of Asian backgrounds, are on their way to becoming world-class fighters. Azim, already the European super-lightweight champion at just 21 years old, and Sheeraz, set to face tough opponent Liam Williams on February 10, show great promise.
The Mighty Moses Itauma
Another name to watch out for in the boxing world is Moses Itauma. At only 19 years old, this heavyweight fighter has already won all of his seven fights. Itauma's goal is to beat Mike Tyson's record and become the world heavyweight champion at just 20 years and 145 days old. While this may seem like a long shot, Itauma's talent and determination cannot be overlooked.
With Eddie Hearn's surprising change of heart and the emergence of talented young fighters, British boxing fans have an exciting year ahead.
