Errol Spence Jr.'s eye surgery could end his career for a year - putting plans for Manny Pacquiao's fight in doubt

ERROL SPENCE JR could be out of commission for one year after having eye surgery. This could potentially compromise a fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao, the WBC and IBF champion at welterweight, was scheduled to take on Pacquiao in Las Vegas on Saturday.

After sustaining a retina tear during sparring, Spence was forced to quit.

The American unbeaten went under the knife, vowing to bounce back.

However, Dr Michael Davis, who performed retinal tears surgery on Abner Mares, said that recovery can take anywhere from six to twelve months.

The fight with Pacquiao, scheduled for January, is now on hold.

PacMan will challenge Ugas for the WBA title, but he refused to say if it would be his last before he retires.

In a sign that the Filipino icon could keep going, he confessed to targeting Spence, 31 and Terence Crawford (33), who have the WBO belt.

Pacquiao (42), said that he doesn't know if it will be his last fight, but that he would see fight after fight.

"But if there is a chance of fighting another fight, then I would love to face the best--either Terence Crawford oder Errol Spence."

After facing the late sub Ugas, Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach still hopes his star pupil will fight Spence.

Fighthub's Roach said that it was "two of the most talented fighters fighting each other." Boxing needs more of this.

"It's disappointing it went the opposite way, but we don't have any control over it."

"Is he [Spence] trying to fake his detached retina?" I don't believe so. This sounds absurd, but it's true.

"It's possible, but we fight one fight at a while and we won't decide until after the fight.

"It could be Spence, if he's willing to go. But, if not, we might have [someone else] to pick from."

"There are a few other guys that we could choose from. Although it would have been an exciting fight, Manny was a great choice.

"We had a great strategy going into that fight and we have a great strategy going into the fight.

"There are some things you must do and they're different for the two fighters.

"I believe Spence is a better boxer than Ugas, but the truth is, he is not unbeatable."
