ANTHONY JOSHUA took a break to think while on vacation in America.
After his September defeat to Oleksandr Uzyk, the former heavyweight champion will be spending some time in Stateside.
Anthony Joshua on vacation in America
AJ, however, is always a man on a quest and constantly evolving. He could make the most of this trip as he prepares for Usyk's rematch next year.
SunSport explains how Joshua can make the most out of his time abroad.
Masterclass with Canelo Alvarez
Recently, AJ was spotted visiting Canelo the Mexican star's gym at Canelo’s US training base in San Diego.
He would be foolish not to learn from the four-division champion, who became professional at the age of 15.
Canelo is well-known for his generosity and will often take Ryan Garcia along to share his tactical knowledge.
Joshua is open to receiving advice, and Joshua would be a great listener if he could.
Rehire an additional coach
Joshua's training group was questioned right after he lost to Usyk in London.
After losing to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019, he was loyal to Rob McCracken, his head trainer. It paid off as they avenged their loss.
Although there is no indication that AJ will switch camps, he did bring in Angel Fernandez and Joby Clayton before rematching Ruiz.
He could do it again, and return to the US with an experienced cornerman to assist McCracken in camp.
Spare some rivals
America is a hub for quality sparring. This could make it more difficult for AJ to get out of his comfort zone, and he might be forced to re-find the bullish boxing that made him a star.
Unfortunately, southpaw sparring is rare and America doesn't offer it.
Ruiz, an ex-opponent, is an option due to his speed. However, he is orthodox and doesn't possess the same speed as Usyk. So Cuban Luis Ortiz who resides in Las Vegas is AJ’s best bet.
The Brit used to call to spar Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder in past. This shows that he isn't afraid to mix it up with his rivals behind closed-doors.
Locate a new training facility
Joshua, who won gold in London in 2012, has established a base in Sheffield's Team GB Base.
McCracken will likely keep him, so it is unlikely that AJ will move. But, if AJ does decide to change his mind, America might be the right place.
Fury, who was living in Vegas at the time with Sugarhill Steward, his nephew to the legend Emanuel has completely reinvented himself.
AJ could use a school of hard knocks attitude to his rematch against Usyk, and Fury could take a page from Fury's book following two major wins over Wilder.
Get off of boxing
Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Joshua's show, has said that Joshua is obsessed with making Usyk look bad.
This obsession could cause stress for the 2012 Olympic gold medalist.
AJ has plenty of time to train and get into fight mode with a rematch scheduled for the first months of 2022.
Joshua may find that he can relax and have some alone time helps him to clear his mind and get a breath of fresh air.
