Frank Sanchez is a boxer who will be taking over the heavyweight division after Canelo warns Fury and Joshua

FRANK SANCHEZ, the Cuban heavyweight, is being tipped to take over the division by Canelo Alvarez.

After a long and successful amateur career that saw Sanchez amass a 214-6 record, Sanchez made his professional debut in 2017.

In November 2019, the 6ft 4in contest was unbeaten and won 14 victories. He joined Eddy Reynoso as a trainer, sharing the gym space with Canelo, a Mexican superstar.

Sanchez is now 20-0 with one no-contest and ranks fifth with the WBO as well as WBC.

He is now within striking distance of Oleksandr Usyk (34), and Tyson Fury (33) who defeated Anthony Joshua (32) in September.

Canelo says Sanchez will soon be the king of blue ribband, in a strong warning to heavyweight competitors.

Alvarez, 31, stated that he would be the world champion and sweep all heavyweights because he has a special talent.

Sanchez, 28 years old, most recently defeated Christian Hammer, 34 year-old, who was a previous opponent of Fury.

He also outpointed Efe Ajagba (27), the most impressive of his victories.

Sanchez and Canelo, despite their large differences in size and weight, have sparred before in their San Diego gym.

Alvarez, the current No1 pound-for-pound boxer, was there to witness his training partner's victory over Hammer.

Sanchez stated that Canelo's support at the ringside made him feel very motivated.

"This must be the year that I achieve my goals to become a world champion.

"This was a difficult opponent, but I won the ring and my skills were more than enough for him. Anyone who stands in my path will be too."

Sanchez's win over Hammer could further increase his position in the heavyweight rankings.

It sets him up to have a breakthrough year, according Reynoso, his trainer who guided Canelo to titles at FOUR divisions.

He commented: "This is Frank's next step in promotion, and we know that 2022 will bring him greatness."
