The Mexican star has been unstoppable since then. He is now a four-division champion, and undisputed at super middleweight.
Since GGG, no one has ever taken Canelo to the brink or in dire need of favourable scoring.
The Kazakh legend believes that he still has the solution to beat his great rival. However, he can only tell it in the ring.
Golovkin spoke exclusively to SunSport and said: "Ofcourse there is a secret.
"But it's different from the kind of secret that you talk about. That's the secret that you show.

"All of us have the keys to victory, and the only way for you to find out if they fit the lock is to fight to make it happen."
After 24 thrilling rounds in which Golovkin (39) was left empty-handed, fans demanded a three-way decider.
Instead, Canelo (31 years old) would gain weight and win the WBO light-heavyweight title.
GGG, who is still at 160 lbs as IBF champ, faces Japan's Ryota Mrata 35 on December 29, in Saitama. This will unify the WBA belt.
Eddie Hearn, the promoter of the fight between Golovkin & Canelo believes it to be the most lucrative for them both.

He calls for the bitter trilogy fight to be properly mediated, so that the dispute between the star boxers can be resolved once and for all.
Golovkin explained: "This fight should not be hidden, it should attract a lot of attention for all.
"Because it's one, if not THE most sought-after fight, even though it will only be our third fight.
"The greatest demand for this fight is likely to be the largest among all possible fights.
"If he fights another guy and we end up in the middle, then that is not the right approach."
