The UFC star from Ireland did win some early stages before tiring down the stretch, and eventually being stopped on his feet.
Sonnen, an ex UFC title challenger and now analyst, was referring to Nate Diaz’s chances of beating rising contender KhamzatChimaev.
He also made an outrageous claim about McGregor's performance against Mayweather in his first boxing bout.
Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel, "12-to-1 Underdog."
"That line isn't going to hold. I'm telling ya right now that [Diaz] is a 12-to-1 Underdog.
"Diaz was an 8-1 underdog. Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather was 11-to-1.
"It was close to 8.5 but Conor, an 11-to-1 canine, went out and beat up a man for 30 minutes. [Mayweather] lost four out of nine rounds.
"He got his ans kicked regardless what the crooks at the Nevada State Athletic Commission said that night."
McGregor, 34, beat Mayweather, 45. Mayweather announced his retirement but has boxed in three exhibition fights since.

Mayweather was present in May, then to box Don Moore in Dubai, until the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zyed al-Nahyan, 73.
The delay caused the fight to be delayed by one week. It was eventually held in Abu Dhabi where Moore won eight rounds.
Since then, the unbeaten Hall of Famer announced that he would be returning to Japan in September against MMA star Mikuru Asakura, 29,
FightHype is a media company Mayweather loves and reported that a rematch was being discussed with McGregor.
