A sparring session that was heatedly contested 17 years ago is the most talked about event before Amir Khan's and Kell Brooks' long-awaited grudge match.
The former champions of light-welterweight and welterweight will finally settle the matter on Saturday night in Manchester, after years of trash-talking.
Amir Khan and Kellbrook will finally have the opportunity to settle their differences
They are familiar with each other having met as teenagers at an England Boxing training camp back in 2004.
Bolton bruiser Khan said to Sky Sports: "We knew each other." Khan said that he was winning everything and that he was winning everything.
"I knew that he was good, and vice versa."
Khan remembers the camp's soft-spoken Sheffield slugger Brook being brought into the camp as a body to be beaten up by the more skilled fighters.
Special K was his favorite subject. He stated that he was calm. We never spoke. Kell was just a number."
The 35-year old added that "Kell was briefly here." He was allowed to spar in order to test him out.
"But he took such a beating that it was impossible for him to be picked up again.
"This is why Kell knows that I have one over him.
"I was the stronger fighter at that time. He was level above me.
"Kell can't let this go. It must make him relive it."
Shortly after Brook's sparring session, Khan was selected for the 2004 Olympic team. Brook insists that Khan never intended to compete in Athens.
He stated, "I wanted to become a world champion." I was 18 when I became a professional.
"It was not my dream to go the Olympics."
Khan and Brook enter their eagerly awaited showdown at the end of their careers, with their respective skills on the decline.
Khan is certain that Brook's once-steel-like chin will begin to show signs of wear on fight night.
He stated, "I don’t believe Kell can take a good shot or has a chin."
"I believe his punch resistance has disappeared, literally.
"I believe that he is fighting for the payday."
