This could have been Tommy Fury's moment of breaking his rib, which would have ruled him out of the fight with Jake Paul.
Yesterday, the 22-year-old British star revealed that he has a bacterial infection in his chest and a broken rib.
Tommy Fury said yesterday that he has a broken rib, and a virus which have ruled him out from the Jake Paul fight
His mega-showdown with YouTuber Paul, which was scheduled for December 18th in Tampa, Florida, is now off.
Tyson Fury, Tommy's older brother and WBC heavyweight champion was stunned by a clip of him training with a medicineball while calling for his father John to cut his ribs on November 19.
This was ten days after Fury had posted this video in which he pushed Tommy through the same difficult exercise using the medicine ball.
Unibet was then informed by Tyson that Tommy and he had both suffered broken ribs.
The Gypsy King stated that he believed he had fractured one of his ribs. But, you can't do anything to fix a broken rib. It's only painful, that's it.
"Tommy actually has a few broken ribs on one side. He's been unable to exercise as much due to this injury.
It's possible that those injuries are the same ones that forced the ex-Love Islander to withdraw from action.
Tommy claimed that he broke his rib while sparring for Paul.
He spoke on social media and said that training camp was great for him for the first two weeks, but then I got a bacterial infection in my chest which made it difficult to breathe.
"I couldn't breathe during sparring sessions or pad work sessions. I coughed up a lot of phlegm every time.
It led to me sleepingless nights for four weeks. My mind was set on 'I'm going train, I'm gonna get through this, and I'm going fight no matter what'.
'SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT'
"Four weeks had passed, and we decided to have sparring. I took a small clip to my body and it was immediately clear that something wasn't right. My body was so weak from the virus, my body was so weak that I knew there was something wrong.
"I was vomiting from the pain and was almost doubled over. I grabbed my bag and ran straight to the hospital for an MRI scan. The results came back the next day.
"The results showed that I had a clean break, and that I had multiple fractures. The next week, I believed I could still fight, but it was then that the doctor and my entire team decided I couldn't.
"Even though it's not sinking in that I'm not fighting, it's not sinking in. My main focus is to get a new fight date and to recover.
"I can't do any other than get my body as fast as possible and search for a new fight date.
"There's no other fight, that's my next fight and we can hopefully work out a date for next year."
Fury also shared an x-ray image to support his injury.
PAUL OR NOTHING
Instead, Paul will fight Tyron Woodley in the rematch of their August bout. This is after Tommy raised questions about the legitimacy of his injuries.
The former UFC star is currently in training and was offered an additional PS377,000 if it comes to a revenge knockout.
Paul said, "The show must continue. This is business, and these kinds of things happen in boxing. I told my team that I would fight anyone, regardless of who it was.
"Tyron was down. He'd been training in January for a fight and he had the balls to get in there and step in.
"It's going be exciting, almost more exciting than Tommy Fury fight because Tyron is harder. He is more experienced and wants that knockout.
