TYSON FURY started talks for the multi-million-pound boxing match between Tommy and Jake Paul.
Paul was captivated by a single tweet sent in March from the Gypsy King, shortly after Tommy turned 5-0.
Jake Paul calls out Tommy Fury
in a video
The social media post ended with the following: "@jakepaul, where are you?"
The YouTuber responded by claiming that he had no idea who Tommy was, despite Tommy's appearance on Love Island in 2019.
He stated that he had reached the bottom of the tweet and he was calling me to like fight someone. The Tweet was about his brother.
"Oh, I didn’t know he had brothers. He calls me to fight his brother and I am like "Bro, what's the f*** going on?"
"I didn’t know Tyson Fury had an older brother? Tyson Fury is a favorite of mine.
"I don’t have a beef with Tyson Fury but, damn, Tyson Fury would take a s ***, to be his little brother.
"He is literally like this little child. Here's my point. Tyson Fury is Tyson Fury’s little brother. You can fight me if you want, but don't let Tyson Fury do it for you.
"Log in to Instagram and Twitter and call me bro. What's the latest in boxing?
Tommy, unaware Fury would call Jake, responded quickly and videos were quickly being exchanged between them.
Paul accused Fury's girlfriend Molly Mae Hague, of messaging Fury in 2018, while Fury mocked the American light-heavyweight while wearing a blonde hairstyle.
Paul, 24 years old, defeated Ben Askren (37-year-old UFC welterweight) to make it 3-0 for his career.
It was the result of knockouts over YouTube rival "AnEsonGib" and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson (37).
Tommy, 22 years old, was beaten 6-0 by Tyron Woodley in June. Paul, 39, was announced to be fighting Tyron Woodley in August.
Tommy was previously considered an opponent but his profile Stateside wasn't big enough.
Paul would instead have his opponent fight on his undercard against Anthony Taylor, 32.
BACKSTAGE BEEF
Tommy, who signed a 2-fight deal with US Network Showtime, won on Points while Paul did the exact same. This puts them on track for a grudge bout.
The rivalry reached new heights when they met backstage, creating chaos between their teams.
Tommy later said: "There was a time in that corridor when everything was going on between the security, his team, and mine, and it was just him and me."
"I looked into his soul. He doesn't want the cameras to see him when he isn't there.
"Let's face it, if he wanted to fight me, i'd have been in the ring at the end through those ropes.
"But he did not want that, and the reason he didn’t want me in it is because if he was getting in there he wouldn’t be able go back on the decision."
NEGOTATIONS OFFICALLY START
The talks between the two started soon after but hit a roadblock immediately.
Tommy said he turned down two fight offers because he believed he was being low-balled.
Paul raised the deal to $1million and added what SunSport believes to be additional pay per view bonuses.
Tommy replied, "To everyone out there, $1million is not worth getting out of bedfor, this fight will gross millions and billions of pounds.
"I can't walk down the street and not be asked when you are fighting Jake Paul. So until you make a serious offer to fight me, we won't consider fighting pal."
A NEW HOPE
Nakisa Bidarian, Paul's advisor, told SunSport that it was an incredible offer.
"More than most UFC champions receive as a guarantee base. They say it's absurd that they don't want to get out of bed for it.
However, there was hope. Once again, it was back at the negotiation table with an agreement moving closer.
Frank Warren, Tommy's promoter, even said that terms were being worked out for a fight before the end of this year.
Warren stated to iFL TV, "Hopefully we'll finish this week and then we can move on." It will be in December, November or late November.
"STAY TUNED"
Paul has remained silent since then, which is a sign of a close agreement, while Tommy was confident.
He said that before Fury's win over Deontay wilder in the trilogy, "Things look good."
"I don't have much to say, I will leave that up for my lawyers. Things are looking promising, so stay tuned."
Regardless of whether traditional boxing fans and purists like it, most will be there and contribute to a PPV blockbuster.
